Ah, New Year’s resolutions to eat better and exercise. Many of us make them, but don’t always follow through. Here are a few, simple health tips that should make sticking to your goals a little easier this year.

Who likes going to the doctor? No one. But seeing your primary care physician to check your blood pressure, cholesterol, weight, and any potential health concerns will help prevent problems in the future. It will also offer you a big-picture view of how your health is doing and how you can improve it. Make an appointment early this year with your current doctor or find a new one in your insurance network

By keeping tabs on what problematic health conditions and illnesses are in your family, you’ll have a better idea of your own risk factors for diseases, and you’ll give your doctor a better guide to helping you live a healthier lifestyle.  Get a Good Night’s Sleep

Push yourself to get plenty of sleep this year. Sleep is vital to your health.

Many Americans don’t get enough sleep. That lack of Z’s can affect your immune system, energy, concentration, mood, and can lead to anxiety and depression. How much sleep each person requires varies, but the National Sleep Foundation recommends seven to nine hours for adults. To set a goal of getting more sleep, get on a schedule. Go to bed at the same time every night and set an alarm to wake up at the same time each day. This will help your internal clock keep a regular schedule. Your body will adjust and before long you’ll fall asleep more easily, and you’ll be getting the right amount of sleep every night. Before you go to bed try shutting off your phone about an hour before you hit the sack.

Move Your Body

Moving your body is an important part of staying healthy. Whether that means heading to the gym for a full workout or just taking a walk, you should include 10 to 30 minutes of movement in your everyday routine. The trick is to find the type of movement you enjoy. If you don’t like running, maybe you’ll enjoy yoga. Not into yoga? Try taking a karate class. Find what works best for you.

Drink Water

Drinking water is just for keeping you hydrated - it's awesome for your health, too!

It’s very important to stay hydrated to help you digest and prevent dehydration, which will lead to a feeling of sluggishness, headaches or more serious problems like constipation and kidney stones. Eight, 8-ounce glasses of water (or a half gallon) a day is recommended by health experts, but straight H20 isn’t the only way to get fluids in you. Many fruits and vegetables contain water to help keep you hydrated.
